What does it take to get ripped abs?

May 4th, 2010

The abdominal muscles are thought to be one of the most attractive features of the body. Unfortunately, the mid section is one of the hardest areas of the body to burn fat and build muscle and get that desirable 6 pack (or even an 8 pack). So what does it take to get that head-turning belly?

Abs are very similar to your other muscle groups as far as building muscle and burning fat. Your body type will determine phase your start with. Overweight people tend to start with a fat burning phase while thinner people start with muscle building. Either way, there are two main factors that need your attention.

Diet

The first factor (possibly the most important thing) is a very strict diet. Most people don’t have great eating habits, or at least the eating habits that promote a slim mid section. Very often people will go on an obsessive sit-up/crunch kick hoping to shred the fat covering them. This is the complete opposite way to go about it. In fact there are two parts to the diet, fat burning and muscle building.

When it comes to burning fat, you need to remember that your caloric intake is lower than the amount of calories you are burning. In other words, you should have a calorie deficit. This way your body will need to use the fat as an energy resource.

But just as important, you need to make sure you stay away from foods that influence fat storage. Keep your fat and sugar intake low. While our bodies do use good fat (unsaturated), too much will catch up with you. Sugar, starch, bread, and pasta are digested so fast that the insulin our bodies create to digest it goes unused and eventually turns to fat. Always have protein or fiber with any of these and keep them to a minimum.

For muscle building you will need to increase your caloric intake. This does not mean you can eat anything. You need to stick to the good calories you have already been consuming. Just add more. Most importantly though, you will need more protein in your diet to feed your muscles.

Exercise

The next factor is exercise. It’s no surprise that exercise should be part of your overall ab plan. Exercise is usually the only thing people do to try to get the 6 pack. However, they usually go about it the wrong way. In order for your abs to be more visible they need to grow. What most people fail to realize is that the abdominal muscles are just like any other muscles in your body; they need to experience microtrauma, small tears in the muscle fibers, in order to grow. This requires an abnormal amount of stress on the muscles on a continual basis. Although cardiovascular exercise is necessary in the fat burning phase, it is not enough for the muscle building phase.

In order to ad more stress to the abdominal muscles you will need to do weighted exercises. For instance, if you are doing leg lifts, try using ankle weights or handing weight from your ankles. Or hold weights in your arms while doing crunches. It is important to add weights as you progress to constantly push your muscles to new limits, forcing them to grow.

So there you have it. Getting ripped abs may not be easy, but it can be simple. If you pay close attention to your diet and implement the correct muscle building exercises you will be well on your way to having that 6 pack (or 8 pack) you always wanted.

Abrocket Reviews - Discover the Truth About the Ab Rocket

May 3rd, 2010

One of the most heavily advertised exercise machines these days is the Ab Rocket. You must have seen the infomercial on TV at least once, though if you managed to sit through the whole thing, you must have tremendous patience.

In this Ab Rocket review I want to discuss if this machine actually delivers on the promises in its infomercial.

The promise is very simple: using the Ab Rocket exerciser will help you get flat abs and burn off belly fat. Not only that, but the entire exercise process will be much more comfortable since your back and neck will be supported on the comfortable cushions of the AbRocket which are supposed to actually give you a massage while you’re working with them.

So, what is the truth?

Let me start by saying that there are both positive and negative testimonials about the Ab Rocket. Some people find it useful and helpful, while others complain about it.

I want to deal with the complaints here since none of them are mentioned in the infomercial and so you need to know about them.

Ab Rocket Complaints

1. The machine isn’t as comfortable as it’s supposed to be. This isn’t true for everyone. Some people find it very comfortable. This is a major problem with many abs machines. They’re good for people of certain sizes but not for everyone. I can’t say exactly what is the best height range to be in, but just so you know that it may not fit you.

2. The resistance level isn’t enough - This is a repeated complaint. If you’re not a beginner, it is likely that the resistance levels offered by the Ab Rocket won’t be enough to give you such a high caliber workout as you may like.

3. The cushions don’t really give a massage. I can’t really say too much about it. It may have something to do with the fact that machines can’t fit everyone the same way.

The real problem with the Ab Rocket, in my opinion, has to do with the claim that it can help you to burn off belly fat.

I just can’t see how this is true since it’s a known fact that you can’t burn fat from a specific body part by doing targeted exercises. This means that no matter how many crunches you do, you won’t burn more belly fat. You need to do full body workouts which burn body fat from all over your body to really flatten your abs. This is something which the Ab Rocket doesn’t provide.

Furthermore, the Ab Rocket hardly provides a nutrition solution which is also super-important when it comes to losing belly fat.

In my mind, there are better and more affordable ways to lose belly fat.

How To Get Ripped Abs Quick - 3 Super Abdominal Exercise Tips

May 3rd, 2010

So, you want to get ripped quick. With or without ab exercise equipment. Maybe summer is coming and you want to look really good in those swimming trunks or bikini.

Bad news…you’re not going to get ripped overnight. Good news…it can be done in a realistic time frame, which will of course depend on your current condition.

Get Ripped Quick - Super Tip 1: Sorting out your diet

First of all you need to sort out your diet. Don’t cut down on your calorie intake too severely as this can lead to muscle loss and also negatively affect your metabolism.

Ideally you want to strike a good balance between your intake of fat, carbohydrates and also protein.

The most important foods that you should cut out are refined sugars and starches. On the flip side you’d want to make sure you take in plenty of whole, natural, unprocessed foods like vegetables, organic meat, nuts, fruit and eggs.

Super Tip 2: What are the best type of cardio exercises to do?

Forget about doing endless long cardio in your ab exercise routine. You want to switch to shorter, more intense workouts. Not only are they more effective at speeding up your metabolism, but they’re also more fun, easier to fit into your busy schedule and easier to stick to. Examples include:

Rope Jumping
Short Sprints
Hill Sprints
Stair Climbing
Interval Training
Waist High Roundhouse Kicks on a Punch Bag

If you don’t know, interval training is quite simply where periods of intense exercise are mixed with periods of less intense exercise, or recovery. A simple example would be doing a 70m hill sprint, then walking back down before doing another.

Interval training improves the performance of the cardiovascular system and also helps remove the risk of strain injuries that can occur during repetitive endurance exercises.

Quite simply, you burn more calories during short, high intensity exercises than with long, slow cardio exercises. If you want to get ripped quick, interval training is the way to go.

Don’t over train, however. You will inhibit your body’s recovery and get exactly the opposite results of what you want. An injury caused by over training can also put you out of action for a long time, and there’s no need for me to explain what that means. Exercise about 3, maximum 4 times a week, and listen to your body.

Super Tip 3: What are the best abdominal exercises to do?

Focus on full body exercises instead of exercises that only isolate the abs. Most of your exercise time should be spent on these. I’m talking about pushups, pullups, squats, lunges, mountain climbers, static jumps. These are specifically exercises that don’t even require any ab exercise equipment, gym equipment or weights.

To get ripped quick you need to engage your entire body. Be sure to include some exercises that specifically target and isolate the abs in your routine, like jack knives, suspended leg lifts and reverse crunches, but don’t do ONLY those. Get your whole body working and you’ll burn fat much more effectively.

Advanced Workouts for not Only Abs and Core, But Full Body

May 2nd, 2010

I received a question today from a Sergeant who was looking for high intensity workouts with some work for abs, core, and full body to take his team of 30+ soldiers to a new level of fitness in preparation for their PT testing.

He basically said that the men had reached a plateau in their training and needed something really high intensity to take them to the next level.

My response is below…Keep in mind that this workout I gave him uses bodyweight-only exercises, however, it is VERY intense and for people looking for advanced fitness levels.

With that said, keep in mind that if you’re not yet at an advanced level, you can still use this by simply using the basic format of the workout, and just do less of whatever exercises you struggle with, or choose an easier alternate exercise that’s similar.

Here goes…

"Hi J****. To get your soldiers to that next level in their workouts, we’re going to keep the intensity super high here and use the whole body. Keep rest periods short, and use full-body multijoint movements as much as possible.

I’ll give you a killer workout idea below that not only incorporates abs and entire core, but the entire body as well in an intense fashion. Not sure what (if any) equip you have available, so I’ll give you a great workout that’s bodyweight based. Here’s an example to take your men through:

Start with a 2-3 min warmup of light jogging, jumping jacks, or jump rope.

Then, move through these exercises in circuit fashion, one right after the other with only 10 seconds rest between each (repeat the circuit 3-5 times for a killer total body workout):

1. bodyweight squats - 12 reps

2. plyo pushups (clapping) - 10 reps

3. walking lunges up 6 steps and back 6 steps

4. floor mountain climbers for 30 seconds

5. lunge jumps - 6 reps to each side

6. lying leg thrusts (abs) on floor - 12 reps

7. squat jumps - 8 reps

8. side plank hold 30 seconds one side, then 30 sec opposite side

Rest 2 min after each circuit; repeat circuit 3-5x

If that doesn’t get them through the plateau and ready for the next PT test, nothing will!

Lower Abdominal Exercises For Women - Improve Your Posture With Exercise

May 2nd, 2010

Lower abdominal exercises for women are an important part of women’s health. While everybody talks about how wonderful it would be to have six pack abs, it is not the only reason to make sure that you work out this part of your body. Having strong abdominal muscles can also improve your health in other ways - for instance, giving you better posture and reducing back strain. Most people do some abdominal exercises - however, the lower abs are often overlooked.

By using one or two effective types of lower abdominal exercises for women, you can make sure that this important muscle group is also getting worked out effectively. Several of the exercises may require more equipment than you have readily available - however, most lower abdominal exercises are easy to do at home and do not require much extra equipment.

Effective Lower Abs Exercises For Beginners

Lying Leg Raises - Lie down on a flat bench. Raise your arms above your head and have your hands hold the edges of the bench or (if you have one) the hand-grip behind your head. With your legs slightly bent at the knee, raise them all the way up to the vertical position. Pause a second and then slowly lower them. Try not to touch the ground at the bottom. This control will keep tension on the abdominals throughout the exercise and will therefore increase the intensity. Repeat for your designated number of reps and sets.

Reverse Crunch - Lie face up on a flat exercise bench, raise your arms and firmly grasp the edge of the bench above or alongside your head. With your knees bent (and locked in this position), contract your abs and lift your hips to bring your knees in toward your chest - hold for three seconds and lower your hips back to the bench. Repeat for your designated number of reps and sets.

Leg Lifts Are More Advanced Exercises For Lower Abs

First of all, the hanging leg raise is one of the most effective types of abs exercises. For this exercise, however, you’re going to need a lat pull-up bar to hang from. This bar is going to need to be high enough that you can hang from it with your arms fully extended (with your hands shoulder width apart) for long enough to do the exercise - without your feet touching the floor. Then, use your abdominal muscles (you will need to focus) to move your legs up until you are sitting in the air.

Important Notes For All Abs Exercises

• Do not over train your abs. Remember that success is always a result of many efforts. Never train you abs if they are still very sore from a previous workout. Mildly sore is okay.

• Keep your abs pulled in tight through each repetition to get the maximum benefit of each rep.

• Keep your range of motion between 30-45 degrees from the floor or bench (the horizontal position). This helps to minimize the hip-flexor area movement and makes sure that the abs get their full workout.

• Always keep your spine, neck, head and shoulder in alignment to prevent strains.

• When you do sit-ups and crunches, or any other exercise that requires your hands to be behind your head, never interlock your fingers as this causes you to pull on your head and will put your spine out of alignment - which may cause strains to your spine.

So how do you get rid of this layer of fat to expose the amazing abs beneath? Do you need to do 100 abdominal exercises to get it?

Simply put you need to be burning more calories than you consume through a balanced fitness program including weight training and cardiovascular exercising (running, jogging, cycling etc.). Just doing 100 abdominal exercises will not be having much effect as combined with these.

Here we will mention some good exercises that are effective, safe, and can be done almost anywhere. Remember, persistence is the key. Your abs need to be exercised every single day to give you visible results.

Almost any expert can give you a 100 abdominal exercises. Here we mention a couple of easy-to-do, great exercises for flat abs and they are 3 simple free workout routines to get a ripped abs without even doing 100 abdominal exercises every day.

1. Bent Knee Sit-up

Sit down on a sit-up board and hook your feet under the strap. With your knees bent to about 45 degrees put your hands behind your head and your chin on your chest (this will put a slight bow in your back).
From this position, inhale and lie back until your lower back touches the board. Exhale as you raise back up to the starting position.

2. Alternating Twisting Sit-Up

Sit down on a sit-up board and hook your feet under the strap. With your knees slightly bent, put your hands behind your head and your chin on your chest.

Twist your upper body to the right. Retaining this position, inhale and lower your torso down until your lower back touches the board. Return to the starting position and exhale.

Now twist your upper body to the left and repeat the same movement. A movement to the right and left is considered one repetition.

3. Tummy Isometric Crunch

First exhale, and then suck in your tummy as much as you can. Hold this position for fifteen seconds. Then relax and breathe normally.

Visualize moving your bellybutton straight toward your back. Holding in your tummy muscles and tensing your abs is a good way of firming and strengthening them. You will also become more aware of how to control your tummy muscles. Repeat several times. This exercise can be done anywhere, anytime. However, if you have high blood pressure, do not hold your breath for extended periods of time.

You can do these 100 abdominal exercises till the cows come home but they must be part of a good overall workout routine…including cardio work and proper nutrition to lower your body fat percentage.

Also never take for granted the numerous benefits that proper amounts of sleep can give to you. Aside from always feeling refreshed in the morning, you’ll have more energy and motivation to continuing doing these ads exercises to achieve your ripped midsection.

If you have a large layer of body fat covering your abdominals, even the best ab exercise including doing 100 abdominal exercises is not the solution. It is only once this fat layer has been considerably reduced that it is the time to work your way through the best ab exercise list.

The Issues of Heaviness and How EFT Become a Big Part of the Solution

May 2nd, 2010

Life is not merely controlled by actions alone, prior to a deed is the mind that leads into the direction of what the body ought to do. When the mind perceives being hale and hearty, the body amazingly boot a fit and in the pink state of being; when the mind thinks of possessing an attractive physique, the body likewise struts a shape pleasing to the eyes. This is how the partnership of mind and body goes and compliments each other that even in the goal of losing weight continues to become an integral part.

Chief complaints by and large go to weight issues and no matter how you try to make this a secondary concern, this quandary will still remain to be on top of everyone’s list. With the growing number of obese people in this heavy world perhaps what is important is not just a dieting program willing to provide secrets to attaining a beautiful body, six pack abs and hour glass form, but also a right frame of mind that will provide positive thoughts and praises as the body progresses in the goal of losing weight. You will never attain the body you long to possess if at every workout you find yourself divulging words like, “I still look awful”, “I will never become thin and will be fat all my life!” What a horrible way of treating oneself after hard hours of working out. With this way of thinking, losing weight will never be visible even a mere silhouette. Conversely, if you shift the entire scenario by exclaiming the words, “Way to go!”, “You’re losing every inch and pound you got there”, “I’m proud of how much weight you’ve lost!” All these will play a big role in your purpose of losing every inch and pound of body fats.

The moment you shift your thinking to a positive outlook, you are paving way for EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques to become apparent and prevailing in your entire way of seeing things constructively. Studies show that a person who has significant positivism in his life is likely to achieve weight loss and all other life’s issues to rest. Then again, a person who is dealing with cynical and sneering matters is those people who have not achieved anything helpful and encouraging in their lives.

Once you get hold of the techniques of EFT, in stages you will discern that weight issues are now just a piece of a cake that can be easily trimmed down without having to resort to strenuous and alarming mode of stressing oneself to lose weight. Therefore, you can say you are now experiencing a composed and unruffled way of living without being up the creek all the time. Every struggle to losing weight now becomes an everyday opportunity to slim down with so much pleasure and glee.

What have you done to attain all these? Sessions of EFT have proven that a simple tap of a finger to key acupuncture points helps liberate negative neurological patterns and stresses into things that will both shape the mind and body.

The Only Secret to Six-pack Abs - Revealed

April 30th, 2010

With so many products and programs claiming to have ab “secrets”, it’s hard to know what to believe. What I have found through the trial and error process is that the only real secret is an all around good health approach. This means the proper nutrition, the right exercises, effective cardio, and some hard work and dedication. While this may not be the answer you are looking for, this approach produces real results and can be a lot easier than you think.

It can be hard to know where start when deciding to start on a fitness plan like this. Luckily there is a program that can tell you exactly what you need to do to achieve your goal of a slim waistline and a set of rock hard washboard abs. The Truth About Abs Program offers a complete system with easy to follow guidelines. This program has been proven time and time again, which has made it the number one abdominal program on the internet.

I tried the program, and within the first 3 weeks I started to see results. It takes some will power to stick to the plan, but when results start to show you will definitely decide it’s all worth it. Unlike other routines that can be time consuming and disruptive to a daily schedule, this program only takes about 45 minutes a few days per week. By the 7th week I had a complete six-pack! I have to admit I was a bit skeptical when I first read about this program, but after I tried it I consider this program’s claims completely validated. The quality of the exercises is great, as they provide a flex that I have never got in my abdominals before. I believe this has to be the best ab program out there, and I know for a fact it is the best of the many I have tried.

The toughest part may be adjusting to a new diet. With so many fast food restaurants and quick meal options, many people tend to develop bad eating habits. I know, I was one of them. And while adjusting to the new diet was difficult at first, I soon began to enjoy the new nutritional system I had adopted. I felt healthier and I began to like eating foods that weren’t saturated with grease. The Truth About Abs nutritional system offers a wide array of health options to accommodate your diet, so even the pickiest eaters can excel in this program.

Another thing I liked was that after I ordered, I was instantly granted access to the program, so I could get started right away. Since the program is in the form of e-books, you don’t have to wait to get a jump on your journey to perfect abs. And here’s a little secret that the owners don’t want you to know: If you sign up for the newsletter on their website, you will get three free e-books that are loaded with useful information. These e-books serve as a great addition, with some useful tips that can supplement the program very well. When you’re ready to get serious about creating a great set of abs click the link below.
